Global forest fires are a serious issue that affects the environment and human health worldwide. These fires are not only caused by natural factors, such as lightning, but also due to human activities. Factors such as deforestation, climate change and poor agricultural practices exacerbate these conditions. Wildfires produce significant carbon dioxide emissions, contributing to ongoing climate change. The environmental impact of forest fires is devastating. During the burning process, millions of hectares of biodiversity-rich forests are destroyed, affecting the habitats of various species. This habitat loss can trigger species extinction and reduce global biodiversity. In addition, burned soil will experience higher levels of erosion, disrupting soil nutrient cycles and making vegetation regeneration more difficult. Forest fires also impact air quality. The smoke produced contains fine particles and dangerous gases, such as carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds (VOC). Exposure to this air pollution can cause respiratory problems, allergies and heart disease. According to data, the increasing incidence of forest fires in various parts of the world has been linked to increasing cases of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in society. Climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions from forest fires worsens global climate conditions. Higher temperatures can cause an increase in the frequency and intensity of fires. All around us are also feeling the impact on mental health due to the uncertainty that arises from this natural disaster. Affected communities often experience stress, depression and anxiety. Forest fires also disrupt water resources. Plants that function as water stores are destroyed, causing a decrease in the quality and availability of clean water. The balanced ecosystem is disrupted, affecting the lives of people who depend on these resources for agriculture and daily needs. Governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) must work together to address the problem of forest fires. Effective policies, such as reforestation, education on the importance of protecting forests, and advanced fire monitoring technology need to be introduced. The community also needs to be involved in efforts to prevent and control forest fires to ensure environmental sustainability. Education about the impacts of forest fires is essential. Extension programs for farmers and surrounding communities must be strengthened to increase awareness of sustainable agricultural practices. Through these collective steps, it is hoped that we can reduce the negative impacts of forest fires and protect the environment and human health in the future.
