The rise of natural disasters around the world is becoming an increasingly important topic as the frequency and intensity of extreme natural events increases. Phenomena such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and forest fires demonstrate the impact of climate change and human activities on the environment. According to a report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the incidence of natural disasters has increased by 40% in the last decade. Earthquakes are one of the deadliest natural disasters. With detection technology continuing to develop, many countries can now provide early warnings that may save thousands of lives. For example, Japan uses a sophisticated monitoring system to detect earthquakes and provide information to the public in real-time. Flooding is also a serious problem, especially in vulnerable areas, such as Bangladesh and Indonesia. Extreme rainfall, often triggered by climate change, causes rivers to overflow, destroying infrastructure and homes. In Southeast Asia, mitigation efforts such as building dams and modern drainage systems have been implemented to minimize the impact of flooding. Forest fires, made worse by drought and high temperatures, have changed the landscape of many countries. In Australia and the United States, forest fires cause huge losses, both in terms of the economy and the ecosystem. Scientists warn that climate change increases the risk of more frequent and intense forest fires. Tsunamis, although rare, can have very deadly consequences. The tsunami that hit Indonesia in 2004 was one of the worst natural disasters in human history, killing hundreds of thousands of people. An early warning system on the Indian Ocean coast is now a top priority to prevent similar tragedies in the future. As a mitigation measure, the government and non-government organizations work together to increase community resilience to disasters. Education regarding disaster preparedness, evacuation training, and risk mapping are very crucial in preparing communities to face possible disasters. Research continues to be conducted to understand the patterns and causes of natural disasters. Better weather modeling technology helps scientists predict extreme events, so that preventive measures can be more effective. On the other hand, rapid urbanization can exacerbate the impacts of disasters, necessitating more sustainable and environmentally friendly development policies. Adaptation to climate change is also key in reducing the impact of natural disasters. Reducing carbon emissions, improving natural resource management, and increasing ecosystem conservation are concrete steps that can be taken by countries around the world. As global awareness of the importance of this issue increases, cross-border collaboration becomes increasingly vital. International agreements such as the Paris Agreement underline a shared commitment to addressing climate change, which is expected to reduce the risk of natural disasters in the future. In this context, the role of information technology is also very important. An efficient communications platform can be used to disseminate information and speed response to disasters. The use of drones in monitoring disaster areas provides advantages in assessing the situation that occurs after a disaster. Through an integrated and holistic approach, we can address the rise of natural disasters more effectively and reduce risks for future generations. This effort requires all levels of society, from government to individuals, to perform together and contribute to creating a safer world.
